Whitecap Resources Inc. is facing two charges related to a 2021 well leak near Didsbury following an investigation by Alberta’s energy watchdog.
The Calgary-based company is charged with one count of releasing, or allowing the release, of a substance that causes or may cause a significant adverse effect and another for failing to report the incident to the Alberta Energy Regulator once it was known.
Both charges fall under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act. The alleged release occurred in June 2021, the AER said in a release.
An incident report on the AER website states the release of condensate and gas occurred from a fitting at the well riser. No impacts to wildlife or water were reported.
Whitecap is scheduled for a first court appearance July 31 in Didsbury.
