SPRINGBROOK, Alta. — A Canadian Pacific Railway train has derailed near the Red Deer, Alta., airport.
Blackfalds RCMP said they responded to a report of a seven-car train derailment along Highway 2A between Springbrook and Mackenzie Road around 4:45 p.m. Friday.
They said some of the rail cars were carrying crude oil, and one was leaking.
Officials from Alberta highways, environmental services, hazardous materials, emergency services and CP were at the scene Friday night.
No one was injured in the derailment, and police said no evacuation was required because the location is a rural, non-residential area.
No further updates were available Friday evening, but police said traffic would be diverted until the area is cleaned up.
They said they expected the environmental cleanup and removal of train cars would likely take up to 24 hours.
