North West Redwater Partnership reports in its latest status update that it is now a few weeks into the maintenance shutdown and the gasifier test run at the Sturgeon Refinery.
“The maintenance shutdown is going well and approximately one-third complete,” the company said.
There are several dozen local companies involved that are employing about 700 people and over 75 per cent of the shutdown spending on goods and services is staying in the Capital Region, supporting the local economy, the company added.
The gasifier is online and the test run is underway. The team is continuing to collect and analyze data and make adjustments as necessary.
Once the gasifier test run and the maintenance shutdown are complete later this fall, North West said its best estimate remains that it will be running bitumen through the refinery by the end of this year. This date assumes that any additional unexpected challenges are overcome without causing further delays.
