BANFF, Alta. – A man from Alberta has died after a fight police say happened outside a bar in Banff.

RCMP say they responded to a 911 call early Saturday about a stabbing that occurred after an altercation outside a local drinking establishment on Banff Avenue.

A 27-year-old man from Foothills County, Alta., was located when police arrived, but he was declared dead in hospital.

Two males were arrested at a nearby location.

Mounties say in a statement they don’t believe the incident is related to another fight at a Banff bar on Aug. 5 that left a 26-year-old resident of the town dead.

A 22-year-old man who is also from Banff is charged with second-degree murder in that case.

“Police acknowledge the concern the general public may have, due to the two recent violent events in Banff. RCMP believe these to be isolated incidents, and that there is no further concern for the safety and security of the general public, including both residents and visitors of Banff,” RCMP said in a statement on Saturday.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed Saturday’s incident to contact them.

The Town of Banff posted on Facebook that it’s working with victim services to offer supports to specific staff and responders.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Sept. 3, 2022.
