Manitoba Mounties arrest suspect in New Year’s Day homicide

FLIN FLON, Man. – RCMP in northern Manitoba say they have arrested a suspect in a New Year’s Day homicide that happened in a town on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan boundary.

They say in a brief news release issued early Sunday that 18-year-old Xander Tardiff of Flin Flon, Man., has been safely taken into custody. The statement offered no further details.

Police had said on Saturday that officers were in the area of Aspen Grove in Flin Flon, searching for Tardiff who was wanted in connection with a shooting in nearby Creighton, Sask., and a homicide in Flin Flon that occurred earlier in the day.

Investigators did not immediately provide any further information about the two incidents.

Police had asked the public to stay away from the search area while officers worked to resolve the situation.

They had warned that Tardiff was considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
