The rig count in Western Canada decreased by 16 this week to 201, according to data collected by Baker Hughes for the week ending September 1st.
Last year at this time, only 137 rigs were active.
From one week ago, Alberta rig counts decreased to 130 rigs from 144, the Saskatchewan rig count increased to 39 from 38.
Oil drilling decreased to 102 rigs from 115; gas rigs decreased from 102 to 99.
